COURSE DESCRIPTION

The General Building Construction course introduces trainees to the fundamental principles, materials, tools, and methods used in the construction of buildings.
It provides a foundation for understanding how structures are planned, set out, and constructed in accordance with design drawings, specifications, and safety standards.

This module focuses on the practical and theoretical aspects of site preparation, foundation works, walling, flooring, roofing, and finishing. It emphasizes workmanship, accuracy, and safety in all building operations.

By the end of this module, trainees should be able to interpret construction drawings, carry out basic building operations, apply appropriate materials and techniques, and observe occupational health and safety practices on site.

Fluid Mechanics I introduces learners to the fundamental principles governing the behavior of fluids at rest and in motion. The course covers key concepts such as fluid properties, pressure measurement, fluid statics, buoyancy, fluid kinematics, and the basic equations of fluid flow, including continuity, energy, and momentum principles. Students also explore flow in pipes, dimensional analysis, and applications of fluid mechanics in engineering systems. Emphasis is placed on problem-solving, real-life applications, and developing analytical skills essential for advanced studies in fluid dynamics and hydraulic engineering.

Construct Doors and Door Frames

This unit covers the skills and knowledge required to construct, assemble, and install doors and door frames in accordance with industry standards. Learners will explore the types of doors, materials, tools, and construction techniques used in modern building projects. The module also guides learners through accurate measurement, cutting, fixing, and finishing processes to ensure strong, durable, and properly aligned doors and frames.

By the end of this unit, you will be able to:

  • Identify types of doors and door frames and their applications

  • Select appropriate materials, hardware, and tools

  • Measure, mark, cut, and assemble door frames to specification

  • Fit and hang doors correctly, ensuring proper alignment and operation

  • Apply essential safety procedures during construction and installation

  • Finish and inspect work to meet quality and building requirements

This module blends practical tasks with conceptual knowledge, preparing learners to confidently perform carpentry work related to door and frame construction.
